Zoo Nights Never Looked So Bright!
There’s something magical about walking through the zoo after dark. The usual chatter of parrots and lemurs gives way to soft music and the glow of a thousand tiny lights. At the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens in Sanford, that glow gets a serious upgrade during the Asian Lantern Festival: Into the Wild, returning now through January 18, 2026.
This isn’t your average holiday light show. It’s part art exhibit, part cultural celebration, and part walking meditation through 3/4 miles of glowing craftsmanship. Over 10,000 LED lights bring to life more than 30 larger-than-life lantern displays, from luminous leopards and flamingos to sprawling floral scenes and mythical creatures that seem plucked from a dream.
A Night to Stroll, Snap, and Soak It All In
Presented in partnership with Tianyu Arts & Culture, Inc. and sponsored by Publix, the festival blends tradition with technology. Each lantern is handcrafted by artisans who have perfected the centuries-old techniques of Chinese lantern-making—only now the silk and steel frames are paired with modern LEDs that shimmer and shift with color and sound.
Guests can expect:
- Immersive photo ops at every turn (yes, your camera roll will thank you).
- Cultural artistry that celebrates Asian heritage while highlighting nature’s beauty.
- Local bites and festive sips served up between the glow and the greenery.
What began six years ago as a creative partnership has now become a full-blown local tradition, drawing record-breaking crowds and transforming the zoo into a place where light and life collide in the best way possible. Get your tickets early here! Somewhere between the peacocks and the paper tigers, you realize this isn’t just a light show. It’s a full-on art installation that just happens to come with snacks.
More Than Just a Pretty Glow
The Asian Lantern Festival doesn’t just illuminate the zoo; it lights up the season. For families, it’s an enchanting night out. For couples, it’s a date-night upgrade. And for the community, it’s proof that art, culture, and conservation can come together beautifully under one sky.
