Your Florida Earth Day Forecast
Spring cleaning is fine. But spring greening? That’s more Florida’s speed. With Earth Day landing on Tuesday, April 22, now’s the time to step outside, breathe a little deeper, and give some love to the land (and water) that makes this place so good.
Across the state, a few standout events are making it easy to join in—whether you’re planting, picking up, or just showing up. Here are three worth penciling into your April plans.
Earth Day Celebration at Kennedy Space Center
When: Tuesday, April 15
Where: Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
Kennedy Space Center is getting a head start on Earth Day with a celebration on April 15. You’ll find local businesses and conservation groups set up around the visitor complex, sharing how they’re making sustainability part of everyday life—even in a place built for space travel.
There’ll be butterfly releases in the Rocket Garden, hands-on activities for all ages, and a scavenger hunt to keep the kids busy while you explore.
Central Florida Earth Day Festival
When: Saturday, April 19, 10 AM–6 PM
Where: Lake Eola Park, Orlando (East Side)
Orlando’s throwing its biggest Earth Day bash yet at Lake Eola Park on Saturday, April 19—and yep, it’s totally free.
Expect good food (all vegan), live music, rescue animals, local art, and a bunch of ways to learn something new without feeling like homework. It’s family-friendly, dog-friendly, and designed to be as low-waste as possible. Come for an hour or stay all day, cause there’s a lot to take in.
When: Tuesday, April 22, 8–11 AM
Where: Cotanchobee Park, Tampa
Tampa’s marking Earth Day with a waterfront cleanup that does more than just look good. Hosted by Friends of the Riverwalk and Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, the event brings volunteers together to clear litter, protect local waterways, and give downtown a little extra shine. Walkers and kayakers are both welcome (just BYO kayak), and supplies are provided—along with some solid feel-good vibes.
Floridians Making Green Moves
Some local standouts are keeping the planet in mind year-round:
- P448 is turning invasive pythons into sneakers. Weird? Yes. Smart? Also yes.
- Miami-Dade County is cutting single-use plastics in public buildings—including the airport.
- Bright Ideas in Travel honorees include Florida orgs, like EcoVentura, leading the way in eco-tourism and conservation.
Earth Day’s a Start. The Rest Is Up to You.
Showing up on April 22 is great. But the real impact? That’s in the everyday stuff—less waste, more intention, better habits. Keep it going!
