The Arboretum Is Glowing. Literally.

The Arboretum Is Glowing. Literally.

Jacksonville doesn’t do low-key holidays…it does big skies, bright lights, and outdoor celebrations you can enjoy without bundling up like you’re heading into a blizzard. This year, Jacksonville Arboretum & Botanical Gardens is leaning into that advantage with Glowing Gardens, a month-long nighttime transformation running through December 28. It’s part light installation, part nature walk, and entirely one of the city's most standout seasonal outings!

Where Nature and Neon Decide to Team Up

Glowing Gardens isn’t your standard-issue holiday exhibit; it’s the forest’s chance to show off! Trees glow from within, trails pick up shifting color, and pockets of fog and laser effects turn familiar bends into atmospheric surprises. The landscape does most of the heavy lifting, and the lights follow its lead instead of fighting it.

Every section has its own personality. One curve in the trail becomes a soft-lit tunnel beneath illuminated branches, the next widens into a “river” of light that settles into the natural dips of the terrain. Add the snow and glow zone, inflatable igloos, glowing see-saws, festive photo spots, and s’mores stations, and suddenly the woods feel like a nighttime hangout made for families, friend groups, and date nights alike.

A New Jacksonville Holiday Tradition

Part of the appeal of Glowing Gardens is how relaxed the whole thing feels. You’re walking through wetlands and pine forest with the easy pace of an evening stroll, only now everything has a little extra shimmer. Kids get their fun in the glow zones, adults get an excuse to slow down, and everyone gets the kind of outing that doesn’t require overplanning. General admission starts at $22 for adults and $15 for kids ages 3 to 15, with both on-site and shuttle parking options that make the logistics painless.

What Glowing Gardens really nails is the atmosphere. It’s festive without being loud, impressive without feeling manufactured, and grounded in the landscape that locals already love. For Jacksonville residents, it’s the rare holiday event that becomes a tradition after one visit!
