Sip, Savor, & Stir in Sandestin!

Sip, Savor, & Stir in Sandestin!

Some events stick around because they earn it. The Sandestin Gumbo Festival is one of them. Now in its 37th year, the festival returns February 20-21 at The Village of Baytowne Wharf, bringing together local restaurants, longtime fans, and first timers for a weekend built around good food and friendly competition.

This is a cook-off with history. Restaurants from across the Emerald Coast come ready to defend their recipes for a shot at the title of Best Gumbo on the Emerald Coast, while festivalgoers cast votes for the People’s Choice Award and the Best Bloody Marys at The Beach competition.

A Festival That Knows Its Audience

The weekend unfolds with intention. A Friday night kickoff party sets the stage with music and early tastings, giving people time to settle in and scope out their favorites. Saturday is the main event, when the Wharf fills with simmering pots, tasting cups, and plenty of opinions about roux, spice, and seafood.

The Gumbo Festival keeps things moving beyond the cook off itself.

• A competitive gumbo showdown featuring Emerald Coast restaurants
 • The Best Bloody Marys at the Beach Competition, judged by attendees
 • Live music throughout the day
 • Kids activities that make this an easy all ages outing

What keeps this festival relevant after nearly four decades is its balance. It manages to feel organized without being rigid and festive without losing its local edge. You can take your gumbo judging seriously or treat it as a casual afternoon at Baytowne Wharf and still feel like you are doing it right. Don’t wait till the last minute, you can get your tickets for the festival here.

For locals, it’s a reliable favorite. For visitors, it’s a low pressure way to plug into the community. Either way, the Sandestin Gumbo Festival continues to do what it does best: bring people together, stir up some friendly rivalry, and let the food handle the rest!
