Shake, Rattle & Roll Into Newberry!

Shake, Rattle & Roll Into Newberry!

Newberry is dialing the calendar back a few decades on September 19, filling downtown with classic cars, ’50s music, local makers and enough chrome to make sunglasses feel like practical equipment.

The 4th Annual Newberry’s Fabulous 50’s Festival runs from 4 to 8 p.m. in historic Downtown Newberry, turning W Newberry Road into an evening built around old-school cars, music, food and a little well-earned nostalgia.

Chrome Takes Center Stage

The festival’s car show is hosted by Gainesville Street Rods, bringing classic vehicles into the middle of the action. For anyone who can happily spend 20 minutes debating paint colors, body lines or what qualifies as the perfect amount of chrome, this is probably where most of the evening will disappear.

The soundtrack keeps pace with the cars. Twister H Productions will provide live ’50s music throughout the festival, giving downtown the proper backdrop for an event built around an era when tailfins were large and playlists required considerably more equipment.

Local vendors and crafters will also be set up during the evening, adding shopping to the mix while food stands handle the inevitable need for something to eat between laps around the car show. Downtown restaurants offer another option for anyone who would rather sit down for dinner before heading back outside.

Four Hours of Throwback Fun

That compact 4-to-8 schedule makes the festival easy to work into a Saturday without turning it into an all-day expedition. Arrive early enough to see the cars in daylight, browse the vendors, grab dinner and stick around as the music carries the retro mood into the evening.

The festival’s event page offers another place to keep up with details as September 19 approaches.

Sponsored in part by Visit Gainesville, Alachua County, the event gives Newberry a chance to show off the kind of downtown gathering that works precisely because the formula stays simple: polished cars, live music, local vendors, food and four hours to wander through it all.

No poodle skirt is required. If one happens to be hanging in the closet, though, this may finally be its moment.
