Security Training for Reality, Not a Resume
Ever see a security guard leisurely rolling through a parking lot and think, “Would they actually know what to do in an emergency?” That’s exactly the kind of question PSG Security Academy takes seriously. In the classroom, students don’t just sit through lectures. They run through realistic scenarios and learn from instructors who have actually been in the field. The students who choose to attend the 28-hour ‘G’ Florida Statewide Firearms course also known as the ‘G’ Armed Security License course are trained in firearms safety, fundamentals and Use of Force from an instructor with three decades of experience teaching military, law enforcement and civilian students. PSG is the only security school that has incorporated the American Heart Association CPR/AED and Stop the Bleed course into its 42-hour ‘D’ Security Officer course curriculum making sure our officers are true First Responders to any emergency situations security officers often face. The energy is practical and focused, a place where students leave ready to respond confidently when something unexpected happens. Class sizes are intentionally small, giving each student the chance to practice, ask questions, and really master the essential skills they’ll need on the job.
What sets PSG Security Academy apart isn’t a flashy program or a catchy slogan, it’s the people teaching it. Kelly Flanagan, founder and Chief Instructor, spent 20 years in the Air Force Security Police and he has been in the Florida security industry since 1996. Instructor Flanagan has trained with some of this country’s most prominent firearms instructors and he now brings that experience to his students. He and his cadre of very experienced instructors have created a program which teaches what matters most on the job: situational awareness, judgment, and the confidence to act when everyone else freezes. From firearms training to Security and Private Investigations licensing courses, everything is built for the real world, not a checklist. Students walk away with skills they can actually use, not just a certificate to hang on the wall.
That practical, hands-on approach is why PSG Security Academy earned the 2024 & 2025 Best of Florida Award. PSG Instructors bring decades of experience without ego, and the classroom feels more like a team than a lecture hall. PSG isn’t about credentials or buzzwords. It’s about readiness and making sure students are truly prepared for whatever comes their way. It’s the difference between showing up and actually being ready to handle the unexpected with confidence and professionalism.
