Pay Increases for Florida Teachers Third year in a Row
March 21, 2022, Governor Ron DeSantis announced $800 million in this year’s budget was allocated to increase teacher pay.
Since the 2020 legislative season, Florida has invested $2 billion in teacher salaries. The latest allotment of funds takes the average starting salary for Florida teachers from $40,000 to $47,000.
DeSantis aims to retain great teachers and acknowledge the strain placed on teachers and their families by rapid inflation.
Gas prices in Florida have increased by $1.25 per gallon over the past year, and the cost of groceries increased by 8.5 percent, according to AAA.
With the Consumer Price Index revealing the fastest annual inflation rates in 40 years, the budget decision intends to provide critical help to those in the teaching profession.
