Fall Finds Are in Season
Florida’s version of sweater weather may be debatable, but fall market season is very real. From local farms and produce markets to artisan pop-ups and harvest festivals, October brings plenty of reasons to shop outside, meet the people behind the goods, and fill a tote with something homegrown.
Put the Shopping List Away
In Tampa, the Carrollwood Market returns October 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Park at Carrollwood Cultural Center. This isn’t the sort of market where you arrive for tomatoes and leave five minutes later. Fresh produce, plants, farm eggs, meats, and baked goods share space with artisan products, lunch bites, local art, and handcrafted finds.
Carrollwood keeps the outdoor fun going the following Saturday. Fall Fest takes over the park October 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., turning the grounds into a free harvest-themed celebration with live music, food trucks, artisan vendors, pumpkin painting, bounce houses, and games. Consider it a second chance for anyone who left the market wishing they’d bought one more thing.
Down in Palm City, Newfield’s Harvest Festival at the Market gives Saturday morning a decidedly autumnal agenda. The October 10 festival runs from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Newfield Farm, where local vendors bring crafts, gifts and goodies alongside hayrides to the pumpkin patch, live music, face painting, children’s crafts, games, and fall photo ops.
Save Room in the Tote
October closes with another good excuse to shop outdoors. The Mount Dora Village Market sets up October 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sunset Park. More than 70 vendors bring local produce, artisan foods, fresh-cut flowers, and crafts to the lakeside market. Better yet, the date overlaps with Mount Dora’s two-day Craft Fair downtown, making it particularly easy to turn a farmers market run into a full day of browsing.
All in all, market season gives growers, makers, and small businesses a bigger stage while giving shoppers something more interesting than another lap around a shopping center. Bring a tote, arrive hungry, and leave a little trunk space open!
