Most beauty schools teach technique. Trendsetters of FL. School of Beauty & Barbering teaches transformation. Founded in 2001 by Terry and Barbara Collier—two industry pros who started with little more than ambition and a pair of clippers—the Jacksonville-based school is now a trusted hub for hands-on training and career-building in the beauty world.
After a decade running a successful salon on the Westside, the Colliers opened Trendsetters with a mission that still holds true: Our mission is our students’ success in the beauty industry. Terry brought his years as a barbering instructor at FCCJ and Roffler’s Hair Design College; Barbara brought two decades of experience as a licensed cosmetologist, retiring in 2008 to begin the school alongside Terry Collier. Together, they built one of the first Black-owned accredited barbering schools in Northeast Florida—rooted in hands-on learning, real-world prep, and community care that goes well beyond the classroom.
Students can turn their passion for beauty into a career through comprehensive programs in Cosmetology and Barbering. The cosmetology curriculum blends artistry with skill, offering training in hair care, skin care, and nail care—equipping graduates to help clients look and feel their best. For those drawn to barbering, the school provides full or restricted barbering programs with hands-on instruction in haircutting, hairstyling, facial massage, and shaving techniques. Guided by experienced instructors, students gain the practical knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in one of the world’s most dynamic and glamorous industries.
That approach is why Trendsetters just earned the 2025 Best of Florida Regional Award. From skincare to braids, blowouts to barber cuts, they’re not just training stylists—they’re shaping futures. And for the students and clients who’ve walked through their doors, the impact is anything but cosmetic.
