Built for the 4 O'Clock Storm

Built for the 4 O'Clock Storm

Every summer afternoon around four, the sky over Brandon puts on a show. Thunder rolls in right on schedule, and rain drums across the rooftops like a standing ovation. Locals tend to greet it from the couch with a glass of sweet tea and nowhere to be. That cozy, dry front-row seat is one of the quiet luxuries of Florida living. For a growing number of homeowners around Tampa Bay, Harbor Roofing is the reason they get to enjoy it.

Founder Todd Workman climbed his first roof as a teenager, working alongside his stepfather and brother-in-law. He later stepped away to join the Marine Corps after 9/11 and went on to earn a finance degree from the University of South Florida. In 2020, he and his wife Zaina launched Harbor Roofing as a family-owned and veteran-owned company. The crew installs and repairs every major roof type, from shingle and tile to metal and flat. They also take on commercial projects and storm-damage repairs. Insurance-claim inspections round out the lineup. After seeing how roofs held up through Hurricanes Ian and Milton, the team now favors complete GAF systems with peel-and-stick underlayment. It's all part of what the company calls “Attention to Detail Installations.”

That care doesn't end once the last shingle is nailed down. Harbor Roofing offers its employees a path toward eventual ownership, so the people on the roof have a real stake in the work. The family's Brandon office on East Bloomingdale Avenue is now open to the public. All of that dedication has earned the Harbor Roofing team their 2026 Best of Florida Regional Award. Come the next four o'clock downpour, plenty of locals will be enjoying the show from a dry couch.
