Put 111 high-achieving juniors in a room with college leaders, scholarship opportunities, and big plans for the future, and the energy shifts fast. That was the scene in Orlando at the 2026 Sunshine State Scholars event, where students got an early, up-close look at where their STEM ambitions can take them.
Organized by the Florida Department of Education, the two-day program highlighted academic excellence while creating direct connections between students and the institutions shaping their next steps.
Students and their families met with representatives from the State University System of Florida, the Florida College System, and private colleges, gaining a clearer understanding of academic pathways, admissions expectations, and financial planning.
