A Campus That Grows on You

For decades, the University of North Florida has been known as an environmental gem, a green oasis surrounded by one of Florida’s largest urban areas. Today, the University of North Florida Botanical Garden builds upon that natural foundation with 22 themed garden spaces woven throughout what many proudly call the most naturally beautiful campus in Florida.

Visitors may find themselves wandering through a towering bamboo grove, relaxing in a hammock in the Setzer Family Healing Garden, or walking a labyrinth surrounded by fragrant roses, where the gentle crunch of gravel underfoot encourages a slower pace. The experience unfolds as a series of interconnected discoveries, from intimate garden rooms filled with seasonal color, unique plant collections, and a kaleidoscope of butterflies, to miles of scenic trails connecting the gardens with UNF’s surrounding natural preserve.

Along the way, birds, turtles, dragonflies, and other wildlife thrive among cultivated landscapes and natural habitats, creating opportunities to reconnect with nature at every turn.

Beyond its beauty, the Garden serves as a living laboratory where nature, education, and community thrive. Native plant collections, habitat restoration, pollinator initiatives, workshops, research, and volunteer programs connect students, visitors, and community partners with conservation and environmental stewardship.

That distinctive blend of botanical beauty, immersive experiences, wildlife, education, and meaningful stewardship earned the University of North Florida Botanical Garden the 2026 Best of Florida Regional Award, recognizing a distinctive Northeast Florida destination where curated gardens and natural landscapes come together in a way rarely found in an urban setting.
