The 28-hour Class “G” Armed Security Officer Course is a state-required training program mandated by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for individuals seeking licensure to work as armed security officers in Florida. The course provides essential instruction in legal standards, firearms safety, and the professional responsibilities associated with carrying a firearm on duty.

The curriculum combines classroom learning with practical range training. Students are introduced to Florida laws governing use of force, liability, and the authority and limitations of armed security personnel. Emphasis is placed on sound judgment, situational awareness, and the importance of de-escalation.

Firearms instruction covers safe handling, operation, and maintenance of duty handguns, along with core marksmanship fundamentals such as grip, stance, and trigger control. Students participate in live-fire exercises designed to build accuracy, confidence, and safe weapon manipulation under supervision.

Successful completion requires demonstrating competency in both written material and firearms qualification. Graduates are then eligible to apply for the Class “G” Statewide Firearm License, authorizing them to carry a firearm while performing regulated security duties in Florida.
