About
The Alliance for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning Youth provides mental health and care coordination services, leadership development, and policy advocacy that centers the lives and experiences of LGBTQ youth in South Florida.
We serve, nurture, and empower LGBTQ youth, their families, and their communities while advocating for the equal rights and equitable treatment of young people in affirmation of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.
Care Coordination
Care Coordination is a one-on-one, holistic and youth-centered intervention. Youth or family work with a Care Coordinator to identify areas for support such as stress reduction, understanding the coming out/inviting in process, school concerns, working through family conflict, finding a job, and applying for college.
Individual Counseling
Individual Counseling is confidential, one-on-one, affirming therapy focused on supporting the mental health and wellness of LGBTQ youth. Our team of licensed clinicians provides individualized mental health care that is tailored to the unique needs and experiences of each young person.
Group Counseling
Group counseling provides youth with a confidential and affirming brave space where they can share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with peers. We know LGBTQ youth find joy and strength in connecting with other LGBTQ young people. Supportive community-based groups are offered throughout Miami-Dade County facilitated by licensed mental health professionals. Affirmative group therapy explores issues such as healthy living, stress management, healthy relationships, and communication skills.
Family Support
Family Support services help to ensure families of LGBTQ youth are supported in the way that best serves their individual needs. Families can choose to work one-on-one with a Care Coordinator and/or attend a Parent Support Group. Families play an important role in the lives and well-being of LGBTQ youth. Family Support is tailored to the needs of each family and can include resource linkage, education, financial support, or something else entirely. Every family is unique and so our approach will be, too.
Community Trainings and Education
Are you a community organization or school in Miami-Dade County? We provide LGBTQ youth-centered trainings and education tailored to your specific needs! Community training topics include: Gender and Sexuality 101, Cultivating Gender Conscious Classrooms, Enhancing GSA Support, and brief trainings on how school personnel and community organizations can refer LGBTQ youth and families to our services. These are just a few examples. We’d love to hear from you to learn more about your team’s learning needs.
ChangeMakers Leadership Institute
No one is better-suited, equipped, and capable of leading a movement for change and liberation than our LGBTQ youth. ChangeMakers Leadership Institute provides LGBTQ young people with the opportunity to develop as leaders, critical thinking, and community activists. ChangeMakers is for young people, ages 13-20, who are interested in leading a progressive social justice movement. Areas for development include: Expansion of knowledge regarding LGBTQ history, systems of oppression, community organizing strategies, and political conscious raising on local, state, and policy levels. Youth also develop advocacy projects specific to their community needs.
