Ziggys Haven Parrot Sanctuary

Ziggys Haven Bird Sanctuary is more than a rescue. It’s a lifeline for parrots and exotic pets who have nowhere else to go.  Located in Citrus County, Florida, Ziggy’s Haven is a nonprofit sanctuary dedicated to enhancing lives of parrots and other exotic pets through rescue, adoption, sanctuary, education and outreach. We take in birds that have been abandoned, neglected surrendered or displaced and we work every day to give them the care, safety, and a second chance they deserve. 

What makes Ziggys Haven truly special is that we do far more than simply house animals. We provide individualized care for each bird, recognize that parrots are highly intelligent, emotional, and long lived companions with complex physical and behavioral needs.  Many of the parrots who come to us have experienced trauma, poor nutrition, neglect, loss of their owner or years of misunderstanding. We help them heal through proper diet, enrichment, medical care patience, and compassionate handling always putting the bird well-being first.

Ziggy’s Haven also stands apart because we are committed to both rescue and prevention. In addition to the adoption and sanctuary care, we help families keep their birds whenever possible through education, support, food assistance, and emergency boarding. We believe that saving a parrot is not only about taking them in -sometimes it’s also about keeping them home. This helps Ziggy’s prevent a bird from being surrendered in the first place.  

Education is a huge part of our mission. Through tours, school programs, youth camps, community outreach and hands-on learning opportunities we teach the public about responsible, exotic pet care, parrot behavior, nutrition, enrichment, and the lifelong commitment these animals require. By combining rescue with education we are creating a more informed and compassionate community for parrots and other animals
