About

Keep Nassau Beautiful (KNB) conducts and promotes activities and educational opportunities that foster a personal appreciation of, pride in, and responsibility for the natural beauty of Nassau County, Florida. It is charitable and educational in its purpose to keep Nassau County clean and green through community engagement and educational programs. To achieve this purpose, KNB maintains litter and waste control programs, engages in community appearance improvement projects for the beautification and conservation of Nassau County, and promotes the benefits of a clean and beautiful environment.

KNB is an event-centric organization with diversified programs and activities. Programs are categorized under three pillars of action. All KNB activities should align with one or more of these pillars.

Solid Waste Programs

•    Adopt Partners – KNB supports individuals, businesses, civic groups, youth groups, and organizations in controlling litter in Nassau County through Adopt-A-Road, Adopt-A-Spot, and Adopt-A-Highway programs.

•    Household Hazardous Waste Collection – KNB acts as project manager, coordinating with the Nassau County Solid Waste Department and the City of Fernandina Beach Public Works on annual collection events, and recruits volunteers to support these events.

•    Annual and Ad-Hoc Litter Cleanup Events – Includes Keep America Beautiful national events implemented locally (e.g., the Great American Cleanup, International Coastal Cleanup), locally planned events (e.g., the Town of Hilliard Community Cleanup, the St. Marys River Cleanup, Downtown to Dunes), and ad-hoc community events.

•    Community Service – KNB supports individuals seeking community service hours for citizenship, school, or court requirements. Volunteers often complete projects independently and report back with documentation of areas cleaned, litter collected, and photos.

•    Refill Nassau – KNB’s #REFILLNASSAUFL program provides free water refill stations at community events (in partnership with local governments for supply and testing) and offers reusable aluminum cups and bottles for a small donation, reducing single-use plastic waste.

Beautification Programs

•    Planting Nassau’s Future – KNB beautifies public spaces through the Adopt-A-Tree, Legacy Tree, and CommuniTree programs, encouraging tree planting to preserve parks, pastures, timberlands, and green spaces throughout the county.

•    Gardens of Amelia – A first-of-its-kind program in northeast Florida that identifies communities, businesses, and individuals dedicated to garden conservation and beautification on Amelia Island through registration with the Morton Registry of Arboretum via the ArbNet application process, with plans to expand countywide.

Education Programs

•    Wild Amelia – Promotes conservation of Nassau County’s unique and fragile ecosystem through environmental education and hands-on programming, including the Wild Amelia Nature Festival, Wild Nite Nature Presentations, Nature of the Greenway, and Wild Amelia Nature Photography.

Results in 2025 include:
6,608 total volunteer hours which translates into 826 working days and an economic value of $251,751.
