Stor-It Self Storage has grown into one of the premier, family-operated storage providers across Volusia and Flagler counties. Combining a deep-rooted knowledge of local real estate with modern, secure storage solutions, the company’s history is a story of local entrepreneurship tailored to the growth of East Central Florida.   

The Origins: A Foundation in Homebuilding

The history of Stor-It Self Storage is closely tied to Todd and Scott Vanacore, widely known in the region as the founders of Vanacore Homes—a major Central Florida homebuilder established in 1988.   

Recognizing a complementary need for residential and commercial storage as the local population expanded, the Vanacore brothers leveraged their construction and real estate expertise to venture into the self-storage market around the mid-2000s. Operating as a trusted, local family business, they launched their first storage facilities under the "Stor-It" banner in Ormond Beach.

Strategic Expansion Across Volusia County

Starting with just a couple of standard properties, Stor-It strategically expanded to capture major traffic corridors and demographic hubs within Volusia County.

• Ormond Beach Core: The company established a massive footprint in its hometown of Ormond Beach, building multiple specialized facilities. This included locations on North US Highway 1 (such as the North and Ormond locations) and West Granada Boulevard, alongside a dedicated Boat and RV Center on Portland Street to cater to Florida’s outdoor lifestyle.   

  
  

  
  

• Daytona Beach & Port Orange: As demand grew, Stor-It expanded southward, opening a massive facility featuring roughly 85,000 square feet of storage space on Valor Boulevard in Daytona Beach, followed by another facility on Dunlawton Avenue in Port Orange.   

  
  

  
  

• DeLand Expansion: West Volusia was soon brought into the fold with the establishment of Stor-It Self Storage DeLand, LLC on East New York Avenue. This facility brought their signature climate-controlled and non-air-conditioned offerings closer to the historic college town.   

  
  

  
  

Crossing County Lines into Flagler County

With a solid foundation built in Volusia County, the Vanacores set their sights on the rapidly growing communities of Flagler County to the north.   

They made a major push into the market by acquiring a 9-acre property along State Road 100 and Belle Terre Parkway in Palm Coast. This milestone paved the way for a massive, multi-building regional footprint. To serve the surrounding county, they established a central hub known as Stor-It Flagler located on East Moody Boulevard (SR 100) in Bunnell, effectively bridging the gap between Palm Coast and the surrounding agricultural communities.   

Modern Evolution and Current Footprint

From its beginnings, Stor-It has grown to operate eight premier facilities across the dual-county region.   

The company transitioned early self-storage concepts from simple "garage lockups" into high-tech, modern operations. Today, their facilities emphasize advanced security features, including:
