About
The Halifax Historical Society was officially chartered in 1949, but its roots stretch back to 1933, when a group of passionate residents began collecting and sharing stories from Daytona’s early days.
In 1986, the Society moved the museum into its permanent home: the former Merchants Bank, a striking 1910 building located in the heart of Daytona Beach’s downtown historic district. The building itself—rich in architectural character—is now part of the story we tell.
From rare photographs and postcards to timeless artifacts, the Halifax Historical Museum is dedicated to preserving the people, places, and events that shaped this unique coastal community. Our exhibits, archives, and programs ensure that the spirit of Daytona Beach lives on—for locals and visitors alike. Discover our earliest people, the Timucua, Daytona's founding and incorporating, our rich racing history, and people who made lasting impacts on our community, from Matthias Day, Mary McLeod Bethune, and many more.
