Horses Without Humans Rescue Organization

Horses Without Humans Rescue Organization (HWH Rescue) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2017 and based in Bell, Florida. Our mission is the rehabilitation and welfare of unwanted horses: animals that have no owners, no advocates, and no remaining options.

The need is significant. Each year in the United States, more than 30,000 horses are transported to slaughterhouses in Mexico and Canada. Many of these animals are surrendered, abandoned, or sold at auction with no path to safety. HWH exists to intervene for horses at this point of crisis, often within hours of euthanasia or transport.

Our model is comprehensive. Upon intake, each horse receives professional veterinary assessment and medical care, behavioral evaluation, and individualized rehabilitation. Training is conducted by some of the most accomplished professionals in the equine industry, with the goal of restoring each horse to its fullest physical and behavioral potential. We work extensively with horses that have had little or no prior human handling, applying patient, humane methods to rebuild trust and prepare them for placement or sanctuary.

Beyond direct care, our long-term objective is systemic. We are developing a replicable intake, assessment, evaluation, and training model that can be taught to other organizations and individuals, with the aim of measurably improving equine welfare across the United States in both the short and long term.

Every horse in our care is treated with kindness, dignity, and respect, regardless of its history or prognosis.
